KHPP Reduces Heat Production Price by 13.5 percent

2009-03-31

Kaunas heat producers are the first ones in the country to get a move on reducing the heat price; from tomorrow Kaunas Heat and Power Plant (KHPP) is reducing the energy it producers even by 2 cents per kilowatt-hour.

Being the principal heat producer for the consumers of Kaunas City, from the 1st of April KHPP reduces the heat price by 2 cents per kilowatt-hour. This appears to be the first case in Lithuania when the heat producer is reducing the price.

“The heat price, generated by KHPP, will go down at the expense of company’s income and also due to the current declining price of natural gas in the global market”, said Antanas Pranculis, the Director General of KHPP.

From April the heat price to KAUNO ENERGIJA will amount to 12.67 cents per kilowatt-hour, which is by 13.5 % lower than it has been by now.

Intentions on reducing the heat price in Kaunas were announced by Rimandas Stonys, the Member of KHPP Board and the Head of KAUNO ELEKTRINĖ. Moreover, last week a notification on the foregoing was made to the city municipality.

Currently, KHPP is in the process of implementing a project for the construction of Kaunas Thermal Power Plant. Over 1 billion litas is planned to be injected into the construction of the new power station. The new power plant shall become a reliable electric power distributor in Lithuania after the shutdown of Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant, whereas the heat prices to Kaunas residents shall reach one of the lowest levels in Lithuania.
