“Kauno elektrinė” Chooses its Consultant and Technical Supervisor

Kauno elektrinė signed the contract with the consultant and technical supervisor. After the competition the winner came to be the Finnish company “Poyry Energy Oy”. Consultant and technical supervisor will take part in organising an international tender of the general contractor of the new Kaunas Heat and Power Plant and will guarantee the supervision of the construction process.
We have coordinated preliminary work schedule with the representatives of “Poyry Energy Oy”. After final calculations with technical consultants we will reach the decision the power plant of what capacity would be the most beneficial to the city”, said Arvidas Ladyga, the project manager of Kaunas power plant.
“Poyry” is a global consulting and engineering company engaged in the sectors of energy, forest-based industry, water, environment protection, transport and construction services. Turnover of “Poyry” in 2008 made up more than 2.8 billion litas. The company has its offices in 49 countries around the world, with around 8000 experts working there.
Considering the heat energy and combined heat and power sector, “Poyry” is the leading consulting and engineering company in the world. Following the evaluation of the Register of Energy News (ENR), “Pöyry” is considered to be the best consulting and design company of combined heat and power plants.
Project for the construction of the power plant is gaining momentum. Environmental impact assessment has already been carried out, the permit for the development of power plant capacity has been obtained from the Ministry of Economy, the study of the cable connection selection has been conducted and the consultant and technical supervisor have been selected. Other step will be the announcement of the international contract tender.
According to Mr Ladyga, after the construction of the new power plant the price of heat generation in Kaunas will be at the lowest level in the country. This will be the result of the up-to-date combined heat and power generation technology. Predictions imply that energy generation costs will decrease by 20 %.
New power plant will come into operation in the beginning of 2013. Construction of Kaunas power plant will attract investment of 1 billion litas. Implementation of investment project is the responsibility of the company Kauno elektrinė, which was established last year.
