Greater Donations at Charity Ball in Kaunas as Compared to Last Year
2008-12-30
At the gala charity ball, traditionally held at the Town Hall of Kaunas, donations of 137 389 LTL were raised. During the Ball before the New Year last year 109 thousand LTL were received.
After deducting the organisational costs of the Ball of this year (around 20 thousand LTL), organisers of the event would be already able to allocate around 110 thousand LTL to charity receivers.
“That is not the final amount, said Jolita Malcytė, Deputy Head of Department of Accounting of Kaunas City Municipality Administration. A great number of companies had transferred money for charity via bank to the account of municipality. Not all the funds had been credited yet, thus, the exact donated amount will be known within approximately two days.”
The funds, coming from the Ball of this year, will be allocated to children with diabetes. According to Laimutė Vitkauskienė, the Head of Kaunas Society “Likimas”, presently financial support is expected by 11 children with aggravated diabetes, growing in the families deprived of the possibility to provide them with expensive insulin pumps for 6 thousand LTL each. Insulin injections with syringes require regulation of the dose. Pump is a device that makes it work automatically.
Moreover, monthly price for replaceable accessories, which are required together with such pump and dose insulin exactly according to the amount of blood sugar, equals 300 LTL. Sum for accessories is compensated by the State for children under 18. Sadly, elder children do not receive that even though the disease is likely to persist when the young patients become school-leavers or students. Therefore, by means of charity “Likimas” cherishes hopes for assistance to the grown-up patients.
Already before the day of the Ball, the greatest sum, namely 20 thousand LTL, for high aims was donated by Kaunas Heat and Power Plant. Half of that, i.e. 10 thousand LTL, was given by JSC “Systems of energy services", somewhat less (8 thousand LTL) by the company “Helisota”.
As Zenonas Abramavičius, Deputy Director of Municipality Administration, explains, the monetary support is expected also by other organizations for patient consolidation. As soon as it will be calculated how much of charity funds exactly had been received, the ball organising working group will make the decision which part of the funds should be allocated to families with children with cerebral illnesses or children deaf from birth.
